Transportation of drilling machinery
Recently Tschudi Logistics was assigned by Per Aarsleff A/S to ship various machines and machine parts from the northern tip of Norway to Aarhus in Denmark, from where the cargo was further distributed to end-destinations. To ensure that everything ran smoothly our agent from the Danish project transport department, was present on site for both loading and discharge of cargo.
Transportation of drilling machinery
Back in January 2017 a rather complex project commenced in Båtsfjord, Norway. The harbour has undergone tremendous changes in the form of a deepening of about 3 meters, something that will make the harbour accessible for larger and more heavily loaded ships.
A complicated project in a remote area. The deepening itself ended successfully in the fall of 2018. However, returning the heavy machinery to Denmark, The Netherlands and Island was easier said than done. Tschudi Logistics was hired to do the job.
“Our project department is very qualified when it comes to transportation of unconventional cargoes to and from remote areas. We have a strong presence in the north of Norway trough several sister companies and our activities in Kirkenes.” Thomas Vestergaard, Tschudi Logistics
The task itself included shipping all of the drilling machinery from the North Cape to Aarhus in Denmark. The biggest machine being the CAT 390 excavator with a total weight of 50 mt. Today cargo arrived in Aarhus and all equipment will now be shipped for further distribution in Denmark and internationally.
MV Fehn Calypso was employed for transportation of project cargo from Båtsfjord, Norway to Aarhus, Denmark. The vessel is from 2012 and measures L 87.91 m x B 11.41 m. The voyage was estimated to take about a week.
Deeper waters will improve harbour conditions. Prior the dredging of the harbour the depth of water was between four and seven meters, which restricted the entrance of larger vessels. This has been of vital importance for Båtsfjord, which is located in a very secluded area. The deepening will now ease the flow of cargoes and especially large fishing vessels.
Tschudi Logistics was responsible for:
– Loading/discharging of the vessel
– Employing vessel from Båtsfjord to Aarhus
– On site agent in Båtsfjord and Aarhus to ensure a safe loading and discharging
– Further transportation national and international
